  1. In your video blog you raised some interesting and practical points. You discussed many issues that I’m sure other educators and librarians like me trouble with. You made the point that using online tools in the classroom doesn’t mean that it is an innovative pedagogy. It may just mean that you are sourcing teaching materials online but not using them in an innovative way that reaches the students.

As you discussed there are often many obstacles to overcome when trying to introduce innovative pedagogies. These can be as simple as trying to get a website unblocked, or trying to get funding for a project. When thinking about this the phrase “If you build it they will come” springs to mind. Unfortunately this will not always be the case. As you have said the three C’s (connected, creative, critical), play a major role in providing innovative pedagogies and in getting youth to actively engage with these pedagogies.

In the video blog you mentioned that this was the first time you had made an online video. That got me thinking about personal contributions that are needed in order for pedagogies to work. These things can be as simple as keeping up with the latest social networking tools or more difficult tasks like developing a vodcast or podcast that requires editing and the use of new technology. To make innovative pedagogies work it involves a certain amount of personal and professional development for teachers and librarians.
